Relevant Content is the Key Print E-mail
I was at a bit of a loose end last evening so I thought I would check to see how my website was going on the Search Engines. I entered my main keyword phrase into Google and there it was. Ranked #8!!! I had managed to get my site onto the first page of a keyword listing that had over 33 million entries. I was gob-smacked to say the least.

So what secret formula did I use to get such a high ranking? What special tactics did I use to fool the search engine robots?

I?ll let you in on a little secret. I used absolutely none of the traditional strategies to get my site listed! Although I have since added them, I did not even have meta tags or a title to my index page. The only reason I have added them now is to see how much further up the listings I can get with a little bit of tweaking. There?s every chance that my ?fiddling? will result in a drop in ranking, such are the vagaries of the search engine robots.

What I did do was focus on one topic, and one topic only. I have written articles, I even wrote material I packaged in e-book form. But it all has to do with content. My experience is living proof of that.

I am also experiencing increased traffic. According to Alexa my site has jumped about 1.5 million places in traffic ranking in the last twenty-four hours. Of course, it still has a long way to go to reach number one and displace Yahoo (I wish), but that?s still a significant jump in such a short period of time.

So, my suggestion to anyone who wants to produce a website that gets ranked highly by the search engines is to forget trying to trick the robots. Rather, give them what they are looking for which is, and will be into the foreseeable future, content relevant to your keywords. Of course, you would do well to produce the occasional article as well. It doesn?t have to run into the thousands. Again relevant content is the key. At least that is my experience.
