The street that bears his name is only a few miles long, but to the dozens of groups marching in his memory, Martin Luther King's legacy clearly goes a lot farther.

"It's a continuing theme that needs always to be implemented, always needs to be revisited. It has to start with me. It has to start with you. It has to start with us everyday to go out and make sure that dream is still flourishing," Sean Nixon, a senior at the University of Houston, said.

Nearly 5,000 people marched through the streets Saturday in honor of Martin Luther King in the We Are the Dream March and Rally, a first for Houston.

"I appreciated seeing the people stand up for what they believe in," Dr. Charles Wilson, a local veterinarian said.

And like Martin Luther King himself, the thousands of people who walked down his namesake street Saturday understood that change, just like in any march, begins with a first step.
