He is the most well respected party promoter in the city of Houston.  When you hear his name on the radio as the promoter, you know that his party is where you want to be.  Von McDaniel, CEO and sole proprietor of Cheeks 22 Promotions is the man behind many of Houston’s parties and concerts.

After arriving in Houston to go to college, McDaniel formed Cheeks 22 Promotions.  Ever wonder what Cheeks 22 means?  The Word Cheeks was named after Cheeks, an upscale African American Lounge and restaurant, in Detroit.  “I hold that as the standard of the type of events I want to plan.”  The number 22 refers to the date (August 22,) McDaniel arrived in Houston.  “The date stands as a memorial to my family and friends in Detroit that I left behind,” he explains.

Throughout his fifteen years in the business, McDaniel has worked with PACE Concerts, Clear Channel and Infinity radio. He’s thrown 100 events and 15 concerts.  “I don’t want to restrict myself to just doing parties.  I’ve done parties, concerts, fashion shows, hip-hop concerts, jazz concerts, R&B concerts.”  As an example, he’s promoted artist such as Bob James, George Clinton, Sinbad, Kirk Whalum, Jonathan Butler, Bobby Lyle, Chris Walker, Fourplay and many Houston area artists.

McDaniel’s main goal for his events is just for people to have a good time.  His longevity is that he’s been able to conform to the changing times.  “The only competition I have is with myself.
